When will I work? 

The primary work hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm, with overtime required as needed.  

 

Where is this opportunity located? 

This position is located onsite in Brookings, South Dakota in our Systems Verification Lab.

 

Daktronics display and control systems are known for world class quality and reliability. The Systems Verification Lab puts these systems through a series of automated and manual tests to ensure they meet the customer’s expectations and our standards. Testing includes operating the equipment much like an end user, testing different versions of software, firmware, and hardware against other equipment in the system, EMI screening, and taking measurements utilizing oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers.

 

What will the work look like for me?

  • Work with cross-functional teams including Software/Firmware, FPGA/Logic, PCB, Hardware, and others.
  • Learn and utilize test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and time domain reflectometers to evaluate and provide feedback to designers on release candidates.
  • Utilize EMI chamber to evaluate components and systems.
  • Perform ESD testing using ESD gun.
  • Read and understand electronic schematics.
  • Perform routine Printed Circuit Assembly (PCA) modifications using soldering irons and heat guns.
  • Perform, document, improve, and create manual, exploratory and scripted testing for systems including software, firmware, and hardware.
  • Contribute your expertise to foster and build up institutional knowledge and practices within our Communities of Practice (CoP).
  • Investigate and troubleshoot customer issues as escalated by Daktronics Technical Services.
  • Setup equipment to test customer scenarios to help Technical Services and Design Teams (both remote and local).
  • Run automated and manual test cases on software release candidates in a timely manner.
  • Work with Daktronics personnel to answer questions and resolve problems.
  • Complete quality work in a timely manner.
  • Perform other projects and duties as needed.

What are the pay and perks?

The typical hiring range for this position is $26.00 to $29.00 per hour based on the location of Brookings, South Dakota. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including relevant education, experiences, location, and applicable local legislation.

Qualifications

To be considered for the Hardware Technician position, we require the following:

  • Two-year Associate degree in hardware, electronics, or a similar technical field is required.
    • Enrollment in a two-year or four-year technical program and equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 6 months experience troubleshooting electronic equipment/systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Firm understanding of how to utilize electronic lab test equipment (i.e. oscilloscopes, multi meters).
  • Demonstrated ability to take responsibility and learn quickly.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and maintain composure.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and individually.
  • Ability to work across teams to negotiate requirements and timelines with the big picture in mind.
  • Ability to meet all workplace safety requirements.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to:
    • Work in an environment with these types of smells: paint, solvent, solder, and coating.
    • Move materials weighing up to 45 lbs.
    • Maintain steady hand/eye coordination.
    • Distinguish and identify wire colors.
  • Fluent in English, written and verbal.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
