We support the business across a broad range of responsibilities, including legal guidance on corporate strategy, regulatory compliance, risk management, commercial transactions, data privacy, and corporate governance.

What will the work look like for me?

As Senior Counsel, you will join a lean, collaborative team comprising two additional attorneys and support staff. In this role, you will partner closely with the business and senior management to identify, assess, and address legal risks; advise on complex deal structures and approval processes; and help shape company policies, procedures, and legal strategy.

While your background and experience may inform certain opportunities for areas of specialization, the scope of this role requires the ability to provide practical legal guidance across a broad range of legal and business matters. The ideal candidate can translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance for business stakeholders. You’ll thrive in this role if you are a self‑motivated, independent worker who also enjoys collaborating in a team environment where diverse perspectives are encouraged and respected.

We are seeking an experienced Attorney to join our legal team in a generalist capacity. While the position requires broad legal support across the business, candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas would be of particular interest, as such experience may help expand and complement the strengths of our existing team:

• SaaS and technology related commercial agreements related commercial agreements‑related commercial agreements.
• SEC compliance and corporate governance.
• Government contracting and regulatory compliance, particularly in highly regulated or sensitive environments.
• M&A transactions, joint ventures, or strategic partnerships.
• Import and export compliance.

Where will I be working?

The legal team is currently located in the Brookings, SD area, however, Daktronics offers the flexibility to work from a U.S. based home office or Daktronics location. This position is open to candidates eligible to work in the U.S.

Compensation and Benefits

The typical hiring range for this position is $130,000 to $160,000 annually based on the location of the candidate. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including relevant education, experiences, location, and applicable local legislation.

To be considered for Senior Counsel, we require the following:

Educational & Licensing Requirements

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Active bar license.
• Four to eight (4-8) years of experience in-house or at a law firm.

• The ability to evaluate complex situations holistically, balance risk with business needs, and deliver clear, practical guidance or decisions despite incomplete information.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, complemented by a strong capacity for active listening. Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is required.
• An approachable communication style with a sense of humor and the ability to build strong relationships with legal colleagues and business partners.
• Demonstrated commitment to adhering to policies and procedures, as well as maintaining confidentiality.
• Superior business acumen and strategic thinking abilities.
• Strong self-motivation with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated willingness to continue learning and adapt to an evolving business.
• Excellent organizational skills, with proven experience managing multiple and shifting priorities with precision.
• Ability to travel by air and ground. Valid driver’s license. Must be able to meet and maintain Daktronics Driving Eligibility Requirements. Motor vehicle records will be checked.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
• Fluent in English, written and verbal.
