What will the work look like for me?
The Applications Engineer role is cross-functional and provides an essential link between our corporate resources, services, sales, and clients by assisting with specific customer requests. Application Engineers work with project team members to optimize customer control systems. The successful candidate will be expected to work through complex technical items, keeping internal and external groups aware of new product and site configuration information, project sales support, and selling our Daktronics control system products & services.
Technical Understanding and Knowledge:
- Combination of strong technical knowledge of LED products, specifically display processing, with a customer-driven sales mindset.
- This role will require you to work directly with clients and quickly identify their core application needs, while understanding how those needs correlate to Daktronics' products and offerings. Being able to recommend control systems solutions that meet performance, cost, and delivery requirements.
- Ability to confidently present technical features and benefits of Daktronics products/offerings vs. Market competitors. Supporting the market sales team members with accurate assessments.
- Act as a technical liaison for all facets of the new display projects: Sales, clients, project management, and internal & external AV partner engineering/design teams.
- Have a strong familiarity of Daktronics and other common control and processing offerings and understand how they fit into a given integration and determine the appropriate solution set for each project.
Sales Support and Engineering:
- Support both the internal & external sales and engineering teams by providing technical guidance, application/integration support, and product feasibility input.
- Assist with proposal development, customer documentation, and technical solutions design, while working closely with engineering to align customer requirements with product design, manufacturing capabilities, and timelines.
- Present technical writing, including system descriptions, applications notes, and customer-facing renderings/documentation, as well as contributing to system architecture discussions to ensure that solution offerings are technically sound and viable.
- Educate and enable the sales team by clearly communicating the technical capabilities, limitations, and differentiators of Daktronics' display, control, and services solutions.
Selling:
- Must be comfortable presenting and selling LED control offerings and explaining how control systems integrate with the broader Audio-Visual environments.
- Effectively communicate product value and technical concepts to large, cross-functional audiences at client organizations: Including stakeholders in procurement, sales, marketing, construction, av systems, IT specialists, etc., tailoring messages to both technical and non-technical decision makers.
Market Understanding and Knowledge:
- Maintain a strong understanding of current market trends, industry standards, and other requirements impacting LED control systems.
- Stay informed on emerging technologies and future market shifts and translating that knowledge into actionable insights for the business units, including sales strategy and product development discussions.
- Working knowledge of 3rd party content management software (CMS) products in the market: Broadsign, Ayuda, Navori, OmniVex, Scala, Sedna, et al. Understanding the strengths & weaknesses of each system and how they would interface with Daktronics control and display solutions.
- Be well-versed in Daktronics' own CMS offering, Venus Control Suite (VCS), with ability to understand the appropriate control solutions for each customer and how to best customize the software to realize the desired vision of the end user.
