What will the work look like for me?

This position supports sales of products designed for all Daktronics business units and is focused on preparing and maintaining video-based equipment used for demonstrations, conventions, tradeshows and shootouts. This position directly works with the design setup quality and support of integrated control and display systems. A unique aspect of this position is not only being able to technically work with these systems but developing an eye for what looks good on a display. 

  • Gain extensive knowledge of Daktronics video displays and control systems hardware platforms and network designs. Become an expert in configuring and connecting these systems in a safe accurate and timely manner.
  • Support sales efforts.
  • Design setup and test display systems with content at Daktronics prior to shipment.
  • Inspect the product with a critical eye to ensure the best possible product is being presented to potential customers.  
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair any hardware or software issues that arise during a product demonstration.
  • Assist with checking out packing and loading complete systems for shipment.
  • Travel to event sites to set up, operate and load out video display systems.
  • Work with customer service to send parts in for repair.
  • Calibrate and maintain display quality.
  • Provide technical sales support during the event both scheduled and unscheduled.
  • Manage the load out and shipping process post-event.
  • Provide feedback to product managers and engineers regarding the use and appearance of these products.
  • Extensive (50) travel both domestic and international nights and weekends.
  • Work scheduled and unscheduled time as needed to effectively support company goals and have the ability to maintain contact with coworkers outside normal business hours.
  • Support Engineering efforts.
  • Assist with testing new software/hardware products.
  • Apply new software firmware/hardware updates.
  • Report and document software/hardware deficiencies.
  • Work with design engineers to develop and integrate product design improvements for demo equipment.
  • Setup and present video display prototypes for product review by sales engineering or others.
  • Become a knowledgeable resource for others on Daktronics live event control systems and services.
  • Become knowledgeable on competitor’s systems and services.
  • Provide guidance in the development of technical manuals, product specifications, market literature and quick start guides.
  • Assist interns with learning about products and how to operate them.
  • Work effectively as a team member, work with little supervision and assist with process and product improvement.
  • Competently represent Daktronics to customers. Use good judgment and make sound decisions. Become knowledgeable of and follow company procedures.
  • Perform other tasks or responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

To be considered for Demo Technician, we require the following:

  • Associates degree in a technology program such as Electronic Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Agricultural Engineering. Other degrees with related experience may be considered.
  • Effectively participate as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision on a variety of tasks.
  • Desire to work with hardware, software, mechanical and electrical systems. Experience with these systems preferred.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and resourcefulness. Demonstrated ability to take responsibility and learn quickly.
  • Ability to perform and deliver results under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to change.
  • Experience or knowledge of Daktronics products, video systems and image quality preferred.
  • Regularly and reliably work scheduled hours. Be flexible to work nights, weekends and overtime as needed to support business needs.
  • Ability to work at heights, work from ladders and ability to carry ladders and/or tools. Ability to lift 75 pounds. Ability to become a certified forklift and overhead crane operator. Steady hand/eye coordination.
  • Ability to travel by air and ground. Valid driver’s license. Must be able to meet and maintain Daktronics Driving Eligibility Requirements. Motor vehicle records will be checked.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Fluent in English, written and verbal.
