What will the work look like for me?

Daktronics interacts with customers in a variety of markets throughout the world. Our primary markets include Live Events, Commercial, Transportation, Schools and Theatres, and International. The Commodity Manager is responsible for the business relationship with our suppliers within defined commodities. This position will initially focus on electronic components and mechanical hardware.

 

This is an opportunity to focus on the Daktronics Supply Chain by joining the Daktronics Divisional Manufacturing team as a Commodity Manager.

    • Negotiate contracts as needed, keeping Daktronics best interests in mind. 
    • Develop requests for proposals as needed. Negotiate pricing structures with suppliers and look to establish longer term buying programs while reducing costs to Daktronics. 
  • Personal Development  
    • Further develop key competency in Business Acumen, Negotiating, Strategic Agility, Organizational Agility, Presentation Skills, Cross Cultural Sensitivity, and Problem Solving. 
    • Develop commodity Wisdom, Vision, Strategy plans along with OKRs to enable value stream success by also considering global dynamic risks, including tariffs, pandemics, political unrest, natural disasters, logistical constraints, etc. 
    • Ensure data problems are identified and resolved. Maintain accurate systems information in support of company operations, including part description accuracy and management of Approve Vendor List (AVL) and Approved Manufacturer List (AML) on purchase parts. 
    • Experience a variety of communication settings: one-on-one, small and large groups, or among diverse styles and position levels internal and external to Daktronics. 
    • Negotiate skillfully with best interest of multiple stakeholders in mind while navigating through ambiguity. 
    • Participate in 1:1s, reflect/plans, and career conversations.

Where is this opportunity located? 

This individual should reside within commutable distance from Brookings, South Dakota or Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Much of the work for this position can be done from a home office; however, a successful candidate will need to be available in Brookings or Sioux Falls locations for events such as supplier visits, in-person collaboration, etc. on a regular basis.

Qualifications

To be considered for the Commodity Manager position, we require the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Economics, Supply Chain, or a technical related field is required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and self-motivation.  
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, employees, customers, and suppliers. 
  • Advanced computer skills, including experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft suite tools. 
  • Ability to organize workload and prioritize schedule according to company plans. 
  • Effectively exercise discretion and independent judgment. 
  • Ability to travel by air and ground. Valid driver’s license. Must be able to meet and maintain Daktronics Qualified Driver status. Motor vehicle records will be checked.
    • Ability to travel overnight to domestic and international locations. 
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Daktronics does not sponsor, renew, or extend immigration visas for this position.

Desired traits

  • Minimum three to five years of experience in supply chain, inventory and material, and/or project management preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with Daktronics’ products, internal processes, and computer systems preferred.
