When will I work?

The primary work hours for this position are 7:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday, with overtime required as needed.  

 

Where is this opportunity located?

This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota in our Facilities department.

 

What will the work look like for me?

You keep Daktronics factories running smoothly and without incident. You do this by:  

  • Performing scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) on automated equipment.
  • Assisting machine technicians with making emergency repairs to electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.  
  • Following the escalation process daily.
  • Assisting with training peers to perform maintenance tasks.
  • Maintaining records of maintenance procedures, parts, and labor.
  • Performing other duties as assigned and as needed to meet or exceed customer expectations. 

Because you bring a unique perspective to maintenance, you’ll impact operational excellence by: 

  • Contributing to discussions through meeting attendance.
  • Identifying and implementing suggestions for improvements.  
  • Participating in problem solving activities to identify root cause of problems.
  • Assisting with implementation of countermeasures to prevent problems from reoccurring.  
  • Pursuing and acquiring training on equipment operation and maintenance.

Qualifications

To be considered for the Maintenance Technician Assistant position, we require the following:

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of or current enrollment in a two-year Associate degree in Electrical, Robotics, Mechatronics, Diesel Mechanics, Energy Technology, or a similar technical field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in problem solving and troubleshooting.  
  • Regularly and reliably work the scheduled hours.
  • Consistently complete quality work in a timely manner.  
  • Good communication skills, including technical writing.
  • Willingness to learn and capable of learning quickly.
  • Willingness to receive feedback and make changes.  
  • Ability to successfully participate as a member of a team and interact with a variety of personnel in a positive, professional manner. 
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, effectively exercising discretion and independent judgment. 
  • Wear all proper protective equipment as required in work area in accordance with Daktronics Safety Policy and OSHA standards. Items may include safety glasses, safety shoes/boots, hearing protection, and electrostatic discharge wear. You will be provided the PPE for the required areas.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to:
    • Work in an environment with these types of smells: paint, solvent, and solder.
    • Frequently move materials weighing up to 35 lbs. Occasionally to frequently move materials weighing up to 45 lbs. in some work areas.
    • Remain in a stationary position for the full shift with planned breaks.
    • Work from heights, including working from ladders and platforms.
    • Reach in all directions (up, down, side-to-side, and diagonal reaching), including awkward positions.
    • Maintain steady hand/eye coordination.
    • Identify wire and paint colors.
    • Read fine print.  
  • Ability to travel by air and ground. Valid driver’s license. Must be able to meet and maintain Daktronics Qualified Driver status. Motor vehicle records will be checked.
  • Fluent in English, written and verbal.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
