What will the work look like for me?

We are currently seeking a factory Quality Engineer to join our high school parks and recreation manufacturing factory. This position will be involved with all aspects of the quality management system and will be responsible for quality in the HSPR manufacturing areas. The role will be working closely with other factory Quality Engineers and the HSPR factory to identify improvement activities as well as support long term corporate quality projects.

 

Other tasks and functions will include:

  • Assist with training of Quality Assistant/Technician.
  • Support PTC Windchill Closed-Loop Quality Management; Non-Conformances (NC), Temporary Deviation Request (Variance), Corrective Action Preventative Action (CAPA), First Article Inspection (FAI) or others as implemented at Daktronics.
  • Lead the auditing programs for the factory. Ensure auditors are well trained, audits are documented and that they are being performed on-time.
  • Review and analyze existing processes and equipment operations to improve overall product quality, manufacturing capability, process control, and scrap reduction.
  • Develop and maintain relevant quality metrics.
  • Prioritize, lead, and facilitate quality improvement efforts.
  • Analyze and present data/information to support improvement activities.
  • Monitor and control nonconforming material and provide feedback to the provider of material (internal and external). Assist manufacturing with evaluation and disposition of this material and follow escalation process.
  • Review feedback of issues with product produced in the factory from other areas (customer factories, field installation, service, etc.) and take corrective action as necessary.
  • Participate in Design FMEA and Process FMEA projects.
  • Provide training to work groups on topics such as 8-Step, 8D, DoE, SPC, FMEA, Quality Control Plan, etc.
  • Support supplier quality activities such as first article inspections and supplier quality improvements.
  • Support lean activities through active participation for those items that may affect quality.
  • Performing other duties as assigned or needed to support the efforts of Daktronics.

Qualifications

To be considered for Quality Engineer, we require the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, Mechanical Engineering, or similar degree or equivalent from a college or technical school.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, good organizational skills, and self-motivation are required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business communications, governmental regulations, industry standards, and technical procedures, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to management, employees, customers, and suppliers.
  • Ability to organize work load and prioritize schedule according to company plans.
  • Effectively exercise discretion and independent judgment.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to:
    • Lift and carry heavy (up to 45 pounds) and/or awkward items.
    • Stand and/or sit for the full shift and have full range of motion as required for the position.
    • Distinguish and identify colors (wires, paint, etc.) as it pertains to the position.
    • Work with some odors associated with a manufacturing environment (paint, solder, welding, coating, etc.).
    • Wear all protective equipment as required in work area. Items may include the following: safety glasses, safety shoes/boots, hearing protection, protective garments, etc.
  • Ability to travel by air and ground. Valid driver’s license. Must be able to meet and maintain Daktronics Qualified Driver status. Motor vehicle records will be checked.
    • Ability to travel overnight to domestic and international locations.
  • Fluent in English, written and verbal.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

Desired traits

  • Familiarity with Daktronics products and internal processes and computer systems is preferred.
  • Working knowledge/experience in Lean Manufacturing, Quality, and Six Sigma implementation.
  • Advanced computer skills to include experience with Word, Excel, Power Point, and digital photo editing.
  • Familiarity with the use of various quality tools such as 8-Step, 8D, FMEA, DoE, SPC, and various problem-solving tools preferred.
  • Proficiency in statistical packages.
