When will I work?

  • 4/10s Schedule, Primary Schedule – The primary work hours for this position are 6:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Thursday, with overtime required as needed.

Where is this opportunity located?

Position located in Brookings, South Dakota in our HSPR department.

 

What will the work look like for me?

Crating is responsible for building the wooden or metal crates for displays to safely ship products to customer sites.  Equipment used in these tasks include power tools such as nail guns, staple guns, saws, and LP powered heat shrink wrap tools. This could also include moving crates by operating cranes and driving a forklift. You work in an indoor climate-controlled factory with other team members.  

  • As a company, you will be trained to operate all the equipment before independently working with other team members. 
  • Constructing crates by safely operating power tools and saws. Document weights, crated weights, and dimensions of equipment. Label creates with proper required details. List component and unit serial numbers for all pertinent items and displays. 
  • Learn the construction of displays, interpret technical drawings, safely operate hand/air tools to build team with a team. 
  • Read and follow effective loading diagrams. Gather and file all pertinent documentation pertaining to each contract per protocol.  
  • Become certified to operate cranes and other lifting equipment. 
  • Wear all proper protective equipment as required in work area in accordance with safety policy and OSHA standards.  
  • Flexible to help in other areas within the factory or other duties as assigned. 
  • Learn and follow company policies and procedures. 
  • Regularly and reliably work the scheduled hours and overtime when workload requires.

What are the pay and perks?

Starting Pay: $19.00/Hr. + $2.00/Hr. Shift Increment

Qualifications

To be considered for the Crater Position, we require the following:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.  
  • Math skills to be able to read and calculate measurement and accurately recording numbers and quantities.  
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy (up to 50 lbs.) and/or awkward items. Be able to stand for the full shift. Kneeling to nail crates as well as climbing trailers and ladders if necessary. 
  • Previous experience in carpentry or similar work is preferred. 
  • Ability to use power tools, saws, nail guns, and LP powered heat shrink tools. Work with some odors (paint, solvent). Distinguish and identify wire colors. 
  • Computer skills with keyboard skills required. Prefer experience with Excel, Word, and Microsoft Office. 
  • Good communication skills. Fluent in English, written and verbal. 
  • Ability to learn quickly, work as a team with minimum supervision. 
  • Ability to travel by air and ground. Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Motor vehicle records will be checked. 
  • Effectively exercise discretion and independent judgment. 
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
