Learn more About Daktronics!

Daktronics is recognized as the world leader in the large visual communication display industry. The next breakthrough in displays is assembly process technology that brings devices from all the best material systems onto large format panels. To maintain our status as a world leader, Daktronics is investing in mini-LED (i.e. Chip on Board (COB)) and micro-LED (i.e. Surface Mount Pixel Engine (SMPE)) technology. COB and SMPE technologies are methods to manufacture Ultra High Definition (UHD) displays. Daktronics has committed to mini-LED and micro-LED research labs to create processes, test processes, evaluate materials, and test product designs. The labs consist of die bonders, micro-LED mass transfer printers, spin coaters, plasma etch, curing systems, bond tester, encapsulant machine, and analysis tools. This is an emerging technology for the display industry and for Daktronics.

Daktronics is seeking candidates for a Process Engineer who can help Daktronics implement and improve this new and exciting cutting-edge technology. You will oversee the process development for COB/SMPE assembly along with micro-LED mass transfer printing technologies. You will aid in researching processes and equipment needed in a lab setting and all the way to full scale production. You will assist the product development engineers in designing a robust manufacturable design.  You will be a key member of the hard-working and talented team at Daktronics that designs, develops, and makes COB and SMPE displays.

Responsibilities:

  • Use mini-LED and micro-LED assembly process technology to build COB and/or SMPE display prototypes with consistently improving quality and pixel yield.
  • Chase-down sources of yield loss to ppm and ppb levels.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Research lab and production tools to improve or implement new mini/micro-LED processes.
  • Communicate to industry leading suppliers to understand trends in the industry.
  • Develop detailed lab plans with key milestones.
  • Communicate with key stakeholders on the progress of various lab projects and on-going developments.
  • Work closely with the factories to ensure materials and processes are handed off properly.
  • Work with product development during prototype phases to optimize designs around process.
  • Ability to develop plans to determine root cause.

    • Ensure employees who may utilize lab equipment are properly trained before operation.
    • Ensure proper clean room techniques are followed by all employees utilizing the lab.
    • Ensure proper ESD techniques are followed by all employees utilizing the lab.
    • Ensure materials that are utilized during mini/micro-LED operation are transported and stored in a proper fashion.
  • Perform tests and record data as specified in detailed engineering test plans from design, manufacturing, or others regarding mini/micro-LED development. Develop standard test reports to capture and document knowledge gained from tests.
  • Assist with building prototypes, document results, and record observations.
  • With assistance from a designated materials representative, ensure that clean room and process consumables (smocks, shoe booties, gloves, hairnets, collets, solder pastes, adhesives, etc.) are readily available and properly disposed of.
  • Work with maintenance personnel to ensure that all preventive maintenance is documented and maintained per manufactures recommendations for all lab equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance of the clean room environment such as general 5S tasks, performing clean room classification verifications, etc.
