Daktronics Creative Services is a full-service creative team that offers extensive experience in the design, development, and implementation of LED content. For the last 35 years we have steadily built a reputation as an industry leader in LED content Design.  

  

Creating quality content is important, but the real value is in how those elements come together to create a seamless production that engages, educates, and informs audiences. We take pride in finding new and unique ways to showcase the content we create on our customers’ displays; this is guided by our first-hand knowledge and experience with both Daktronics display and control system technology.

This digital artist intern position will provide you with extensive learning opportunities in the creation of LED and LCD display content as it applies to the advertising, retail, corporate, or sport industry. You will be prepared for full-time employment through exposure to creative processes and by honing your technical skills on manipulating and combining graphics with text to enhance and complement the brands of our potential display owners.  

 

To be successful in this position one must have a strong demonstrated understanding of design principles and have the talent to clearly articulate ideas through visualization and 3D technical graphics. 

  

Position has opportunity to work from a US based home office in either South Dakota or Texas.

Your exact responsibilities will vary depending upon business needs, but you can expect opportunities like these during your internship:   

  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, Illustrator. Adobe After Effects experience a plus but not necessary.  
  • Designing and creating animations for video and message displays using 2D graphics and video editing applications.  
  • Designing and creating static artwork for LED and LCD displays using various graphics editing applications.  
  • Producing and presenting design and animations from concept to completion for sponsors, sales, and consumer/fan enhancement.  
  • Creating artistic content targeted at a variety of display sizes and adhere to the customer branding.  
  • Creating concepts of display projects, along with animations and graphic frames for demonstrations and presentations to customers  
  • Working within a creative project management system.  
  • Learning to anticipate customer concerns in terms of revisions.  
  • Creatively solving problems.  
  • Learning Daktronics products and control systems.  
  • Building and maintaining professional relationships.   
  • Contributing to Daktronics Intern Group:   
    • Monthly luncheons  
    • Attend Toastmasters  
    • Recruiting events  
    • Give internship capstone presentation and attend colleagues’ presentations.  

What is the pay and perks? 

The typical hiring range for this position is $16.00/hour to $18.00/hour based on the location of South Dakota or Texas. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including relevant education, experiences, location, and applicable local legislation.

Qualifications

  • You can quickly learn technical product features and functions and can communicate to non-technical customers and users.  
  • You have a strong interest in sports and can relate to stakeholders of sporting applications. 

Academic:  

  • Preferred applicants will be full-time students currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program related to visual graphics, motion graphics, graphic design, broadcast engineering, communications, other technical, or communication programs. Will consider December 2024 and May 2025 graduates.  
  • Completion of sophomore year in good academic standing.  
  • Required to take a semester off from school to pursue the internship if not a graduate. Duration of internship will be a semester and a summer. Only strong academic performers in undergraduate coursework will be considered. 
  • Must maintain an acceptable GPA. 
  • Unofficial transcripts or web transcripts must be submitted with application to be considered for this position. 

Other Requirements:  

  • Good oral and written communication skills. 
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal. 
  • Good organizational skills. 
  • Self-motivation. 
  • Microsoft office experience preferred. 
  • Willingness to learn. 
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.  
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
