    Every day, in nearly 100 countries around the world, millions of people depend on Daktronics scoring and display systems for information and entertainment. Our displays provide vital travel information in airports and train stations and along highways. They advertise the price of gas, store specials, and more as you make your daily commute. They also enhance spectators’ experiences at sporting events of all kinds, from Little League to the major leagues.

     

    Position located in Brookings, South Dakota. Candidates must be enrolled and registered as a full-time student. Ideal candidate should be available to work approximately 15-20 hours per week during the academic year and at least 20 hours per week during the summer.

     

    This Employee Communications writing student will interview employees across the company to gather information to write a variety of stories for the company’s website. The ideal candidate will have a passion for telling people’s stories—being able to gather and synthesize information from interviews and other sources putting it into written work. This candidate will work to promote employee recognition and enhance employee community.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Interview employees throughout the company, domestic and international, and produce written articles about them.
    • Work with the video production student to interview employees on camera.
    • Coordinate and/or assist with events including, but not limited to, retirement parties, company events, and celebrations.
    • Work closely with Employee Communications and Recruiting to create engaging content for our social media presence.
    • Create company-wide department PowerPoint presentations.
    • Communicate and collaborate with team members on various projects.
    • Maintain an organized schedule and routine for producing work on deadline.
    • Order and purchase items for the department.
    • Support our recruiting efforts by writing employee stories for corporate newsletters, newspapers, magazines, internal and external web networks, and distribution at job fairs and classroom presentations.
    • Complete special projects concerning employee or candidate communications. Perform other responsibilities and duties as needed or assigned.

    Qualifications

    Academic Requirements -

    • The ideal candidate must be a full-time student pursuing a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, advertising, English, or similar bachelor's degree and in their sophomore, junior, or senior year of school.
    • Only strong performers in undergraduate coursework will be considered.
    • Must maintain an acceptable GPA.
    • Unofficial transcripts or web transcripts must be submitted with application to be considered for this position.

    Other Requirements -

    • Demonstrates excellent writing and interviewing skills. Strong abilities in MS Office products. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite a plus. Ability to quickly learn new tools.
    • Friendly, positive approach to people. Must enjoy talking with and learning about people and their work. 
    • Ability to work well with others in a team environment and quickly complete accurate work with minimal supervision. 
    • A commitment and demonstrated ability for meeting deadlines. 
    • Ability to work a reliable and dependable schedule
    • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
    • Background check may be conducted.
