They also enhance spectators’ experiences at sporting events of all kinds, from Little League to the major leagues.

     

    Internship runs January 2019 through August 2019.

     

    Daktronics in Redwood Falls, MN is a leading edge manufacturing facility housing Surface Mount Technologies (SMT), LED display technologies, metal fabrication, paint and packaging. We are seeking a dedicated and highly motivated individual who is interested in developing professionally, and is drawn to being able to play an active role in the world’s leading manufacturer of Large Format Electronic Display Systems. As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern, you will use lean skills and engineering tools to support improvements across our various manufacturing areas. You will have the opportunity to own projects and participate in team projects.

     

    Primary responsibilities of this position include:

     

    • Support manufacturing engineers in ensuring Daktronics product is being manufactured in accordance with standards.
    • Support manufacturing engineers in the continuous improve our products and process following Lean practices.
      • Problem solving of issues impacting daily production (issues with equipment, material or process).
      • Participate on teams focused on larger impact projects involving new factory layouts, equipment moves, process improvements.
      • Work as a liaison between manufacturing and divisional engineering (Design, Quality, Sourcing, etc.) to develop and/or improve processes and procedures to reduce scrap, rework, labor and improve quality.
    • Assist with implementation of new production equipment and procedures.
    • Support efforts to improve effectiveness of automated equipment.
    • Research, source, and/or design equipment and tooling to reduce waste or improve ergonomics.
    • Work effectively as a team member, work with little supervision, help when and where needed, make suggestions for process and product improvement, and communicate effectively with team members.
    • Be at work on time and maintain good attendance. Be willing to work additional hours as necessary.
    • Complete other duties as needed to assist manufacturing departments.
    • Wear all proper protective equipment as required in work area in accordance with Daktronics Safety Policy and OSHA standards. Equipment includes safety glasses, safety shoes/boots, hearing protection, electrostatic discharge wear, and other equipment determined necessary by Daktronics Risk and Safety Department.

    Qualifications

    Academic Requirements –

     

    • Preferred applicants will be full-time students of at least junior status currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.
    • Required to take a semester off from school to pursue the internship. Duration of internship will be a summer and a semester or a semester and a summer.
    • Must be able to commit to 40 hours per week.
    • Work through the Cooperative Education Internship Program with accredited university and Faculty Coordinator to arrange for credit while participating in this 7-month internship.
    • Required GPA of 3.0 or greater.
    • Unofficial transcripts or web transcripts must be submitted with application to be considered for this internship.

    • Good oral and written communication skills, good organizational skills, self-motivation.
    • Background check may be conducted.
    • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
    • Computer skills and Microsoft Office knowledge are essential.
    • Presentational, organizational, planning, and creative problem solving skills are essential.
    • Strong sense of teamwork and ownership is essential.
    • Detail and documentation oriented.
    • Effectively work with a wide variety of people.
    • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
    • Physical requirements:
      • Ability to operate automated equipment and/or hand tools.
      • Work with some odors.
      • Ability to lift and carry heavy (up to 50lbs) and/or awkward items.
      • Be able to stand for the full shift.
