    This position can be in Brookings or Sioux Falls, South Dakota.


    As a Lead Software Architect/Product Owner, you will work with development leadership to identify a technical solution that meets business stakeholder needs. The Lead Software Architect/Product Owner also works with the Program Management team to ensure alignment of work with the program vision and roadmap. Successful Lead Software Architect/Component Product Owners require excellent communication skills and the ability to balance between business analysis and technical needs. The Lead Software Architect/Product Owner is responsible to the business for work performed by the development team. This role and team will operate within a large scale Agile environment.          


    The Lead Software Architect/Product Owner is focused primarily on the following responsibilities:

    • Leads the development team to technical solutions – through understanding, vision and road mapping.
    • Build strong working relationships with internal customers and teams.
    • Work with the engineering and business stakeholders and the Program Team to elaborate details for upcoming development.
    • Serve as the customer representative to the development team. Engage with the customer as needed.
    • Create, prioritize, and communicate the product backlog of the team.
    • Work with the SCRUM Master and development team to create user stories and define acceptance criteria.
    • Continually work to refine and prioritize the backlog as work is completed and new work is introduced.
    • Validate and accept/reject work completed by the team.
    • Negotiate delivery with business stake holders throughout development and on intervals required to support the business.
    • Collect user feedback on delivered work through product demos and presentations.
    • Assist business stakeholders with creation of supporting documentation, including training material, user documentation, sales literature, technical documents, etc.
    • Participate in sprint ceremonies with the development team, including planning, backlog grooming, review, and retrospective.
    • Participate in Program Increment ceremonies as needed, including planning and backlog elaboration.
    • Perform other duties as assigned and needed to meet company goals and/or customer expectations


    • Bachelor of Science degree in a computer related field.
    • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Must be self-motivated and effectively exercise discretion and independent judgement.
    • Excellent problem solving skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to create and set a technical vision/direction.
    • Familiar with Agile, Scrum, and SAFe methodologies.
    • Preferred experience:
      • Familiarity with Daktronics products.
      • Prior experience with Product Owner responsibilities.
      • Experience as a Technical Software Architect.
      • Work management through Microsoft Visual Studio Team System or Team Foundation Server.
      • 5+ years in leading software development teams.
      • Cloud based systems – prefer Microsoft Azure. Expanding large scale IoT management.
      • Microservice architectures, networking APIs, .Net framework.
    • Fluent in English, written and verbal.
    • Valid driver’s license and must be able to meet and maintain a qualified driver status per the Daktronics Motor Vehicle Policy. Motor vehicle record will be verified.
    • Background check will be conducted.
