Responsibilities

Every day, in nearly 100 countries around the world, millions of people depend on Daktronics scoring and display systems for information and entertainment. Our displays provide vital travel information in airports and train stations and along highways. They advertise the price of gas, store specials, and more as you make your daily commute. They also enhance spectators’ experiences at sporting events of all kinds, from Little League to the major leagues.

 

Position located in Brookings, South Dakota. Candidates must be enrolled and registered as a fulltime student. Preferred candidate should be available to work 15-20 hours per week during the academic year and at least 20 hours per week during the summer.

 

The engineering lab student will work in our testing laboratory which provides a diverse array of testing services for all areas of the company. Some of the services include exposing electronics and mechanical parts to an array of stresses, including heat, moisture, static, corrosion, vibration and then understanding the side-effects.

We will expose you to multiple phases of the product life cycle from evaluating prototypes, design verification to field failure analysis. You’ll experience a professional laboratory environment where you can develop problem solving capabilities, design of experiment techniques, and experience real world product failures. You will be challenged to have multiple experiences during your student career at Daktronics which may mean rotating to different job responsibilities. In other words, we will challenge you to demonstrate your full potential.

As a student you will be exposed to:

  • Communicating professionally via email/IM/telephone
  • Working in Excel and SharePoint
  • Prioritizing your work
  • Problem solving
  • Following procedures and making recommendations for improvements
  • Managing small experiments
  • Working with a diverse array of product designs
  • Measurements & Instrumentation
  • Hands-on failure analysis
  • Communicating laboratory results
  • Interaction with experienced engineers in multiple fields

Qualifications

Academic Requirements –

  • The preferred candidate will be a fulltime student currently enrolled in accredited Bachelor’s degree program in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, General Engineering or other related degrees.
  • The preferred candidate will be in their sophomore or junior year of school

  • Only strong academic performers will be considered

  • Must maintain an acceptable GPA

  • Unofficial transcripts or web transcripts must be submitted with application to be considered for this position. 

Other Requirements –

  • Good oral and written communication skills (particularly with graphing software), good organizational skills, self-motivation.
  • Background check may be conducted.

  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.

  • Daktronics does not sponsor, renew, or extend immigration visas for this position.

  • Detail-oriented with desire for quality performance.

  • Physical dexterity, good vision, capable of meeting Daktronics' lifting requirements (45 pounds or more).
